Scavolini Green Mind - Photovoltaic System Inauguration
Scavolini has opened the first of the photovoltaic systems that are set to guarantee 85% of the company's energy needs: the development of this
important work falls under the scope of Scavolini Green Mind, the ambitious environmental protection project launched in January 2009. This new action shows special attention to energy, as confirmed by Gian Marco Scavolini, Quality and Environment Manager and Deputy Chairman for Scavolini. Two years ago we chose to buy exclusively green energy, obtained from renewable sources, and have made it zero impact, offsetting the emissions produced to obtain it, with the planting of trees. We have already replanted and protect 5 hectares of forest, equating to approximately 7 football fields, in relation to the electricity consumption for 2009 of around 2,700,000 kWh. And it is from this standpoint that we immediately considered the possibility of ourselves starting to produce green energy... Two photovoltaic systems will produce green energy for Scavolini. The first, completed last November and effectively started-up just a few days ago, is positioned on the roof of the new 13,000 m² production plant. The system consists of 2,000 polycrystalline panels positioned on a surface area measuring 2,500 m², with an installed power of 357 kWp. Annual production is estimated at around 400,000 kWh, which is able to completely cover the energy demands of the new structure, thereby avoiding releasing 204,000 kg of Co2 into the atmosphere. And the hot water will be entirely guaranteed by solar panels. The second, which will be started-up in April, is larger and covers the current plant. An important project that also involves the removal and reclamation of 50,000 m² of Eternit. The system will comprise 36,000 m² panels, mainly amorphous, thin film type, and, to a lesser extent, in polycrystalline, with an installed power of around 3,100 kWp. Annual production will be around 3,500,000 kWh, which will allow the company to reach almost complete energy autonomy. It is a new step along the route undertaken with the Certification of the Environmental Management System according to standard UNI EN ISO 14001, obtained in 2004; another important threshold for Scavolini, which is committed, each and every day, to protecting the environment and spreading the values of eco-culture through sustainable development projects. November 17, 2010 - (New York) Scavolini, the Italian kitchen manufacturer, chose New York City as the place to open its first American retail showroom, although homes here generally are not known for their large kitchens. “That’s true,” said Francesco Farina, chief executive officer of Scavolini USA. “But our products are very modular, so we can offer big kitchens for big houses, like the ones in Long Island, the Hamptons or New Jersey, and we can also offer urban kitchens.”
The company, based in Pesaro, Italy, on the Adriatic, offers 40 different styles of kitchens, with 350 finish options for 500 cabinet doors (most are clean and modern, but there are a few traditional designs). Fifteen kitchen styles, such as Flux, above, by Giugiaro Design, are on display in the 10,000-square-foot SoHo showroom, designed by SpaCe Architects. There is also one fully functional kitchen: Crystal, by Karim Rashid, which will be used for cooking demonstrations. The showroom will also carry countertops and appliances from Miele, Wolf, Gaggenau, Smeg, Faber and Elica. Scavolini, 429 West Broadway (Prince Street), (212) 219-0910, scavolinisohogallery.com. The latest design trends see a return to geometric forms recalling the sinuous designs of the 1950s. The "curvy" kitchen is rounded, favouring soft layouts and elements inspired by circles and ovals. Let's take a look together.
Tables and islands are the elements par excellence of a kitchen created and designed in circular forms. The choice of this design underlines in this case the spirit of sharing and union, precisely of the two units, created to welcome the whole family (for a table), and to cook in company (in the case of the island). The discreet charm offered by bringing together glass and aluminium in Scavolini’s Crystal kitchen is also available in the Texture version by Karim Rashid with exclusive colour schemes and graphic patterns.
“Decoration is a way of communicating, of conferring dimension, structure, form, depth and character; it’s a way of giving depth and dynamism to the objects that animate our space, that create favourable conditions, that drive the eye to go beyond the surface to arouse an illusion or entropy, to embellish or enrich the surfaces, materials and objects. Now decoration can add a further emotion and a new meaning to the flat and mono-chromatic world of modernism. With reference to this, I developed some digital graphic ideas to express the spirit of our times. This is what I did with Scavolini. I embellished the the glass surfaces to transform two-dimensional kitchens into spaces endowed with more complex dimensions. A kitchen should be essential but also sensual just like everything else that goes on around it, but also well-ordered and evocative and appealing from an aesthetic and social point of view.” Karim Rashid Watch this video featuring Karim Rashid talking about Scavolini kitchen cabinetry. |
