Sisters Alisha & Niki Serras' Share Their Expertise and Design Musts
As sisters and business partners, Alisha and Niki Serras of Scavolini by Cucina Moda (cucinamoda.com) bring a special dynamic to their working relationship, one cultivated from not just experience, but growing up together.
“We’ve been working together for over 15 years, but it started way before that. As kids, we learned how to argue, make up and move on, which has made us great business partners. When disagreements arise, we handle them privately and always present a united front,” the sisters share. “We’ve naturally fallen into roles that play to our strengths. Niki is about process and organization; Alisha focuses on growth and big-picture strategy. For example, when we open a new location, Alisha builds it out, and Niki ensures everything runs smoothly for the local team. At the end of the day, it works because we know and trust each other implicitly.”
A dynamic built upon mutual trust and respect, the pair, who share the most rewarding part of working together is being side by side every day, have learned to play into one another’s strengths.
“Every project is completely custom, and each client has the opportunity to achieve their own personalized aesthetic and function in their space,” the two share. “Alisha is minimalist or even spartan in her own personal design, Niki is a bit warmer and tends toward warm contemporary. In our business, we believe each client should have the care and attention (through us and our team) to create something perfect for their home and lifestyle. No two kitchens look alike.”
Through Scavolini, Italy’s leading kitchen and bath cabinetry brand, the two sisters are at the forefront of luxury and custom kitchen and bath remodels and renovations. In a world where “the customer is always right” mentality takes center stage, the Serras sisters actively listen to their clients, bringing their vision to life.
“We guide the process with care. Every home is different, every client unique, and our job is to honor that while steering the design toward a final result that’s beautiful, functional and lasting,” the two share. “Even if that means redirecting away from a choice that might not serve them in the long run.”
So how do they do this, with offices nationwide in Michigan, Illinois, Massachusetts and Florida?
“Our local teams—designers, installers and support staff—are truly our greatest asset,” they share. “They’re the ones who bring the vision to life, understand the nuances of each market and ensure that every detail is executed with precision. They’re the heart of what we do.”
For the sisters, Scavolini represents more than design; it’s a continued family legacy. Influenced by their father, a restaurateur and devoted creative, the duo learned early on the power of clean lines and thoughtful, natural materials to evoke warmth and balance in a space.
“Every home is different, every client unique, and our job is to honor that while steering the design toward a final result that’s beautiful, functional and lasting.”
In modern design, there’s nowhere to hide,” they explain, highlighting the importance of precision and intention when decorative elements are stripped away. This deep respect for craft and clarity defines the Scavolini approach, where every detail from layout to installation is handled with precision and care.
Looking ahead, the sisters are focused on thoughtfully growing their brand across their four locations, including their newest in Florida—a personal milestone for Alisha, who has long dreamed of trading snow for sunshine. With a keen eye on emerging trends like softened metallics and cleverly concealed pocket doors that elevate kitchens and closets, the duo continues evolving their offerings while staying true to their roots. Their mission remains clear: to become a name synonymous with sophisticated, beautiful design and flawless execution.
